Alan Ritchson says upcoming ‘Motor City’ is almost a silent film
Alan Ritchson will bring his favorite Jack Reacher novel to the screen or die trying.
The “Reacher” star, 43, claimed in a Threads post on Sept. 18 that the Prime Video series was on track to adapt a storyline from the books where Jack Reacher faces off against white supremacists. But according to the actor, the plans changed due to some real-world events.
In reply to a user who said they wanted to see a season based on the novel where Reacher “kills his way through a white supremacist militia camp,” Ritchson wrote, “My favorite book. Fun fact: I had it approved until someone got re-elected,” alluding to the re-election of President Donald Trump in 2024.
USA TODAY has reached out to Prime Video for comment.
The actor was referring to the second novel in the “Jack Reacher” series, “Die Trying,” which was published in 1998. In the book, Reacher and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s daughter are kidnapped by white supremacists.
Ritchson has long pointed to “Die Trying” as his favorite Jack Reacher book, and he has said for years that he hoped to see it adapted in the TV show, which has aired on Prime Video since 2022.
“I would love to see that happen,” he told Men’s Journal in 2025. “And so far, there’s been a lot of discussion about whether or not we should or should not. I guess we’ll see what the future holds. I’ll find a way.”
“Reacher” recently concluded its fourth season, which was based on the novel “Gone Tomorrow.” Prior seasons have adapted the Reacher books “Killing Floor,” “Bad Luck and Trouble” and “Persuader.”
A fifth season of “Reacher” is in the works, which will adapt the book “Make Me.” In addition to starring, Ritchson is also an executive producer on the show.
Ritchson has previously been vocal in his criticism of Trump, who was re-elected as president between the show’s second and third seasons. In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the star, a devout Christian, slammed the president as a “con man” and said that he doesn’t understand how “the entire Christian church seems to be treat[ing] him like he’s their poster child.”
