Brandon Aiyuk didn’t wait for the next wave of football noise to move the business part of his season forward. In a recent social-media video, the 49ers receiver said he terminated a Standard Representation Agreement with Ryan Williams of Athletes First in November 2025.
On Friday night, though, the NFL Players Association records didn’t match what Aiyuk was saying. The SRA was still listed as active in the NFLPA’s online database.
That changed on Saturday.
The NFLPA’s online database now shows that Aiyuk is not represented, and the NFLPA indicates the Standard Representation Agreement was terminated on Saturday. The shift is simple on paper, but it lands with immediate consequences for where Aiyuk stands next—especially as training camp approaches.
Aiyuk’s next step, the NFLPA process suggests, should be to promptly petition the league office for reinstatement from the reserve/left squad list. Once that reinstatement happens, he would be positioned to show up for training camp.
If he clears that hurdle, the knock-on effect could be swift for the 49ers. The expectation is that the team would then be in a position to immediately release him.
Aiyuk has already made his own condition clear. He said he won’t return to the 49ers until the Commanders play at Levi’s Stadium on October 19. That requirement creates a tight timeline with how the league tracks players and their representation status.
If the 49ers do not release him from the reserve/left squad list, a cameo appearance at the substation-adjacent practice facility could become necessary to secure his status as a free agent—an unusual workaround that still comes down to one practical goal: keeping his free-agent pathway intact.
