AirPods will be easier to manage with iOS 27 controls revamp

Apple plans to change how AirPods are managed in iOS 27, with a revamped settings menu meant to be more functional and better organized. The update follows user feedback calling for a dedicated AirPods control app, though timing for any standalone app remains
For AirPods users who’ve spent too long hunting through settings, iOS 27 is set to bring a calmer experience. Instead of forcing people to dig for the right options. Apple is expected to alter how AirPods controls appear across its operating systems—starting with an improved settings menu that’s designed to be easier to manage.
The shift is tied to Apple’s broader WWDC 2026 lineup. where iOS 27. iPadOS 27. and macOS 27 are all expected to play a role. Even if AirPods don’t get the kind of headline treatment that comes with an on-device operating system. the audio experience can still be reshaped by changes inside Apple’s platforms—how controls are presented. where options live. and how clearly key features are surfaced.
Mark Gurman. writing in Sunday’s “Power On” newsletter for Bloomberg. reports that Apple is revamping the AirPods control experience in the settings area. The goal is straightforward: a better-organized menu that’s more functional, giving users an easier way to manage AirPods overall. Gurman also says major features should be better highlighted, but the report doesn’t spell out which features—or how.
Users have pushed for something else, too. Apple’s updating the controls after hearing feedback from people who want a separate AirPods control app. The idea is that a dedicated app would mirror control options that are available on the Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro.
Still, there’s doubt about how quickly that kind of standalone app would arrive for iOS and iPadOS. The revamp described in the report centers on the way AirPods are handled in settings now. and while a dedicated app is part of the conversation driven by user requests. the report suggests it may not be coming anytime soon.
What’s clear is that Apple is responding to friction—less about changing what AirPods do. more about making it simpler to control them day to day. With iOS 27. iPadOS 27. and macOS 27 in the mix for WWDC 2026. the real question for users is how much easier the updated menus will feel in practice. and whether they’ll still need to hunt for the right toggles once the new organization lands.

So they’re changing the settings menu again? I swear Apple hides everything on purpose lol.
I don’t even manage my AirPods that much. But if there’s gonna be an app like Watch/Vision Pro then fine? Also “iOS 27” feels so far away.
Does this mean they’ll finally let you turn on transparency without digging? Cuz rn I always end up on the wrong screen and then I’m stuck restarting stuff, pretty sure.
If they really wanted it easier they’d just put the AirPods controls on the home screen. People keep asking for a standalone app but Apple will probably never do it and then they’ll just “organize” it and call it innovation.
