Ahsoka Season 2 Slips to 2027: Maul Wins

After Maul — Shadow Lord became Star Wars’ highest-rated Disney+ project, Disney has confirmed Ahsoka Season 2 won’t arrive until early 2027. Fans are rewatching, Hayden Christensen is set to return as Anakin Skywalker, and the next live-action gamble—The Mand

Star Wars fans have had to pace their excitement this year: Maul — Shadow Lord finally gave Darth Maul center stage, while the franchise’s next big Disney+ sprint is coming later than anyone hoped.

The animated Disney+ series—where Darth Maul is voiced by Sam Witwer—has already landed as the highest-rated project in franchise history. And for many viewers, it’s more than a critical win. The series takes Maul out of the shadow of the Jedi and turns him into the lead of his own story. not a supporting presence.

But the mood has been mixed on the bigger screen. Reviews for the first Star Wars movie in seven years also landed with real weight. and the numbers behind The Mandalorian and Grogu are shaping up to be the lowest-grossing Star Wars movie in history—already expected to gross even less than Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Disney’s next move also carries a built-in delay. For a while, it was believed another Star Wars Disney+ show would arrive at the end of the year. That idea didn’t last. Disney confirmed that Ahsoka Season 2 won’t arrive until early 2027.

The timing is stirring frustration from fans who watched the first season of Ahsoka premiere in 2023. Many have pointed out that Disney and Lucasfilm will have needed four full years to produce a season of TV that’s expected to come in a slimmer format—likely just six or eight episodes.

Part of that gap has been tied to leadership changes at Lucasfilm. Dave Filoni is taking over as President of Lucasfilm from Kathleen Kennedy. and with the role comes a wider scope of duties. Even so, the wait hasn’t stopped the conversation—if anything, it’s pushed viewers back into the first season.

Ahsoka rewatch momentum has quietly returned in several countries, helping the show surge back into the top 10 ahead of Season 2.

The cast buzz is growing too, and one name in particular is lighting up speculation: Hayden Christensen. He will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker in Ahsoka Season 2. confirmed by the first image of him in the show that dropped just a few weeks ago. It’s unclear whether Christensen will also appear as a version of Darth Vader—something he previously did in Obi-Wan Kenobi—or whether he’ll return specifically as Ahsoka’s former master. Either way, his presence alone has fans eager for what comes next.

The series returns to the franchise’s roots in another way: its first season already exists for new viewers to catch up on while they wait. Ahsoka premiered on Disney+ on August 22, 2023, with directors including Steph Green, Jennifer Getzinger, Peter Ramsey, and Rick Famuyiwa.

The sequence of the year feels like a stark contrast: a Darth Maul-led animated triumph, box-office worries for The Mandalorian and Grogu, and an Ahsoka Season 2 rollout that stretches deep into the future.

And as the first trailer is still expected later this year—with more details about the season being kept under wraps for now—the clearest message from Disney’s schedule is also the simplest for fans: the Force may be patient, but the next wave isn’t arriving anytime soon.
