Affordable housing development in Capitol Hill backed by Amazon, former Seahawk

SEATTLE — State and local leaders gathered Thursday to celebrate the groundbreaking of a 67-unit affordable housing development on Seattle’s Capitol Hill, a project backed by former Seattle Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril’s real estate firm, C&A Development.

The project was financed through investments from Amazon’s Housing Fund and Seattle Credit Union.
Amazon contributed $6.7 million as part of its more than $900 million commitment to affordable housing across the Puget Sound region. Seattle Credit Union invested $11.4 million in the development.
“In Seattle we have an affordability issue. For me to be a part of it, trying to fix this issue is huge. It comes down to having the right team,” Avril said.
Gov. Bob Ferguson also attended and spoke at the event alongside current and former Seahawks representatives.
The development will provide housing for families earning between 40% and 80% of the area’s median income. The homes are designated to remain affordable for 99 years.
Organizers said the project highlights the role of public and private partnerships in addressing the region’s affordable housing challenges.
