AEW’s Tony Khan Finally Reveals If He Really Would’ve Let Edge Wrestle John Cena

One of the notable omissions from John Cena’s WWE retirement tour was Edge, but AEW’s Tony Khan would’ve let Adam Copeland wrestle him.

Speaking to Metro, Khan said that he was open to letting Copeland return to WWE for a one-off match against Cena. However, he never received the call and was adamant about that.

“I was never asked, and as far as I know, Adam was never asked, so it’s hard to say. But when there have been opportunities to collaborate, I have been collaborative in the past,’ he pointed out.

Kahn even said that he would “not have undermined” any arrangement if both sides had come to an agreement. It just never came through.

Why didn’t AEW’s Adam Copeland/Edge wrestle John Cena during his WWE retirement tour?

Edge didn’t get to wrestle Cena because, according to Khan, WWE never inquired about the AEW star. Edge, who now goes by his real name, Adam Copeland, is part of AEW’s roster. He left WWE in 2023.

Cena, meanwhile, got to face a lot of his greatest foes during his retirement tour. He ran it back with matches against the likes of CM Punk, Randy Orton, and AJ Styles.

However, he had a long history with Edge while he was in WWE. After all, he cashed in his first Money in the Bank contract on Cena to win his first world championship. They would feud for years until the “Rated-R Superstar’s” initial retirement in 2011.

Cena’s farewell tour took place in 2025, going from the Monday Night RAW on Netflix premiere in January to the December edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event. His final match took place on Dec. 13. He lost to Gunther in his last match at Saturday Night’s Main Event, tapping out for the first time in years to the “Ring General.”
