Sarnia Sting draft pick Adrian Sgro aims to dominate

The Sting have spent two of their last three first-round picks on Vaughan Kings. Centre Alessandro Di Iorio, their current captain, was the No. 2 overall pick in 2024. “The first player to text me was Alessandro, who asked for Adrian’s contact so he could send him a FaceTime and congratulate him,” Seca said. “It’s pretty cool coming from a Vaughan King captain to another Vaughan King captain.” OHL director of hockey development Darrell Woodley has high expectations for Sgro. “He’s just going to be
one of those kids that’s going to be able to step into our league next year right away and make an impact,” Woodley said on the YourTV broadcast. Sgro is confident, smart and wants the puck on his stick, Woodley said. “This kid is definitely a gamer,” he said. “He led that team shift in, shift out. Just great mobility on the back end. Plays with his head up. Moves the puck well. Does everything and has a good physical side to his game as
well. Puts up points. Plays in every situation.” The Sting paid tribute to former scout Kyle Craner before making their selection. Craner died of brain cancer in September 2025. His father, Randy, and brother, Joel, joined the team’s brass on stage. Last year’s Sting first-round pick, Brenner Lammens, was also on stage to greet Sgro after Randy Craner announced the pick. The draft continues Saturday with Rounds 2 to 15. The Sting have 13 picks remaining.

FaceTime already, wow.
So they picked him to “dominate”… but like who is actually watching OHL that much lol. Also brain cancer stuff is so sad, my heart goes out. Hope he doesn’t get pressured to be a captain or whatever.
“Led that team shift in, shift out”?? Isn’t that what everyone says about prospects. I swear every coach just copies the same buzzwords. And Vaughan Kings captain asked for his contact… that sounds like recruiting already, not a draft.
Okay I read the part about Kyle Craner and I got chills, like brain cancer is rough. But the draft rounds thing confuses me—did they already pick like 1 guy and still have like 13 picks left? Also it says Di Iorio was No. 2 overall in 2024, so how is he “current captain” now, like time moves fast. Anyways, “gamer” sounds corny but I guess if he’s mobile and physical that’s good.
