Aderholt Applauds Red Bay Lighting Funds Secured

Rep. Robert Aderholt says federal Community Project Funding will support a new Red Bay roadway lighting project after Alabama DOT awarded the construction contract.

A new stretch of roadway lighting in Red Bay is moving closer to reality after Alabama’s Department of Transportation awarded the construction contract for the project, a development Congressman Robert Aderholt is highlighting as progress for public safety in his district.

Aderholt. who represents Alabama’s 4th Congressional District. pointed to the state DOT’s decision to move forward with installing roadway lighting along a specific corridor from the Bear Creek Bridge to the 9th Street West/Water Plant intersection.. The construction work follows the award of the contract, marking a concrete step from planning and funding toward installation.

The effort is being financed through federal Community Project Funding that Aderholt secured for Red Bay.. He framed the funding as part of a broader push to improve infrastructure and safety across the district. particularly in smaller. rural communities that can face uneven access to transportation upgrades.

“This project will directly improve public safety and infrastructure in Red Bay by providing much needed lighting to areas of concern for residents and drivers. ” Aderholt said.. He argued that better nighttime visibility supports safer driving conditions, strengthens community confidence, and can lower opportunities for criminal activity.

The congressman also emphasized a long-running policy belief that rural areas should receive the same level of infrastructure and safety improvements as larger communities. In his view, the federal funds and the resulting construction contract are a meaningful step toward that goal.

Under the contract awarded by the Alabama Department of Transportation. the construction of the lighting project will be carried out by Big River Electric. Inc.. based in Killen. Alabama.. The company’s role means the project now shifts into the implementation phase. where crews will install the roadway lighting along the identified segment.

For residents. the impact centers on a straightforward but important change: expanding illumination in areas where drivers and pedestrians may face reduced visibility after dark.. For local officials and the broader district. the project also illustrates how federal funding can translate into state-led infrastructure work that is targeted to specific locations and community concerns.

  1. Wait so is this coming out of our taxes or what because I swear every time they do one of these projects the regular people end up paying for it somehow. My cousin lives near Red Bay and she said nobody even asked the residents what they wanted done out there, they just decided on their own like always.

  2. I thought Aderholt was against government spending?? This is literally federal money he went and got lol so which is it. Anyway I drive that road sometimes at night and it is genuinely bad visibility out there so I guess fine whatever but it just feels like politicians only fix stuff right before elections and then disappear again. Not saying thats whats happening here but you know how it goes, seen it too many times. They always pick the small easy projects to make themselves look good and meanwhile the actual big problems just sit there for years and nothing happens.

  3. Big River Electric is doing the work?? isnt that the company that had all those problems last year or am I thinking of somebody else
