A surprise superstar concert is coming to a R.I. beach this weekend. But who’s playing?

Concerts

The most common guesses for the mystery musician include Bon Jovi, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Taylor Swift.

The entrance to Saturday’s concert is at North Beach Club House.

In 2006 it was Sting, in 2016 Lenny Kravitz, and now Rhode Island residents are anxiously waiting to see who performs at this decade’s free beach concert on Saturday.

Every 10 years, for his birthday, New York City hedge fund manager Joseph Healey treats himself, and the public, to a concert by a world-class musician at his beach front estate in Narragansett.

This year’s concert will start at 8 p.m., and all are welcome to listen to the mystery musician on the public beach between the North Beach Club House and The Dunes Club, the town said in a release.

For Healey’s 40th and 50th birthdays, he threw a private party at his Narragansett home, the Sand Castle By-The-Sea Beachfront, complete with a concert-grade stage, and screens that allow people on the beach to enjoy the performance as well.

While the musician may be a secret, the concert itself certainly isn’t, and Healey encourages the public to show up to the beach and enjoy the show. In 2006, Healey said about 6,000 people showed up for the Sting concert, according to The Providence Journal.

These highly anticipated performances do come at a cost. This year, a building permit with an estimated cost of $250,000 to construct a temporary structure for a private event at Healey’s home on 129 Boston Neck Road was issued Aug. 18. The past two events were also benefit concerts for charity.

Rumors have been swirling throughout Narragansett and on social media about who the mystery musician may be. The most common guesses include Bon Jovi, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Taylor Swift.

People took to social media to discuss the concert’s mystery and express their gratitude to Healey.

“I heard rumors of Billy Joel,” a user speculated on Reddit. “We shall see!”

“Heard bon jovi at work and she was pretty positive,” another user commented.

“So happy to have such a wonderful experience again,” a Facebook user commented. “Thank you Narragansett Police and Joe Healey for all the magic you do.”

“I’ve waited 10 years for this birthday party!” another Facebook user commented.

Narragansett residents also reminisced on Healey’s past two concerts on social media.

“Time flies,” a Reddit user commented. “I was randomly on the beach when he had Lenny Kravitz which I guess was 10 years ago. That was a fun show. The surprise of it made it doubly so.”

“I was there the first time with Sting, he opened with Message in Bottle … quite appropriate,” another Reddit user commented.

The Narragansett Police Department said on social media it will be highly visible at the event.
