When you buy a leverless controller. you’re usually doing it with a specific goal: to stop negotiating with your hardware and start making every input count. 8BitDo’s Arcade Controller Pro is built for that kind of dedication. aimed squarely at serious fighting game players—and the company’s wording leaves little room for doubt.
The Arcade Controller Pro is the second leverless pad 8BitDo has released. Last year. the company shipped its first leverless arcade controller. designed for joystick-shunning fighting game fans and also for more casual players curious about the all-button approach. This new model keeps the same core idea: a rectangular pad that looks more like a piece of electronic music equipment than a traditional controller. but uses its buttons to handle inputs and movement.
8BitDo’s changes focus on getting the controls closer to the way competitive players actually move their hands. Like the original, the Arcade Controller Pro uses smaller buttons with tighter spacing, making them easier to reach. The biggest functional upgrade is the addition of a fifth programmable button on the far left of the pad. 8BitDo says that extra control gives players more options while leaving more room for the left hand to move naturally.
The Pro also brings a built-in display that shows both inputs and battery status. It’s not just for information either; 8BitDo says the display supports quick settings adjustments. Above the main action buttons. the controller includes a control panel carried over from the earlier model. used to switch between connection modes and to adjust volume. That same panel can activate a tournament lock, intended to prevent accidental inputs during competitive play.
Inside the controller, 8BitDo is leaning into long-term tweakability. The Arcade Controller Pro features hot-swappable switches and redesigned round button caps that can be installed from any angle. Players can also swap out the programmable P1–P5 button caps with flat lock caps—five are included—to reduce the chance of jabbing the wrong button during a fast exchange.
For deeper customization, 8BitDo points to its Ultimate Software V2. Through it, users can customize button mapping and create macros.
Connection options are set up to match the kind of play people actually do. When playing wired—supported on both Windows and Switch—the controller includes a metal locking mechanism that helps ensure the USB-C cable doesn’t come out if the cable gets tugged during sudden movement. 8BitDo says the cable can be connected from the top or side. Wireless play is also supported: 2.4G on PC and Bluetooth on Switch. With RGB features turned off, the company estimates around 15 hours of usage. The controller also comes with a magnetic wrist rest.
No release date is available at the time of writing, and pricing has not been confirmed yet.

So it’s like a controller but with extra buttons? Cool I guess.
Wait the display shows inputs and battery?? That sounds kinda overkill but also honestly convenient. Tournament lock too like why do we need a lock already lol
I don’t get it, “leverless” sounds like it’s missing something important? Like aren’t fighting games supposed to have sticks for accuracy? Maybe that fifth programmable button on the left fixes everything… or maybe it just makes it harder. Also the hot-swappable switches part, sounds like it can break easier.
Every time I see these arcade controller things it feels like PC gaming people are making it their whole personality. It says built for serious fighting gamers, but I’m just trying to play Mortal Kombat without my hands cramping. The little screen showing battery status is neat though, but why the rectangle looks like a music mixer… and “tournament lock” sounds like it’s for cheating somehow? Idk I might be reading too much into it.
