An 8-year-old boy who suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday morning when a tree fell and hit him at a Wayland camp died at the hospital, officials announced Wednesday afternoon.
The boy, who authorities haven’t named, was from Sudbury, according to a release from the Wayland police and fire departments.
Emergency personnel responded to Camp Chickami, a YMCA day camp on Boston Post Road, shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday for a report of people struck by a tree. The boy was taken in an ambulance to Wayland Town Hall and then transported from there to Massachusetts General Hospital in a medical helicopter. He died at Mass General, the release says.
“I want to offer our sincere thoughts and support to the family and friends who are facing this tragic loss,” acting Wayland Police Chief Mark Hebert said in a statement.
An adult sustained “less serious” injuries in the incident. They were taken to a local hospital and have since been released.
