Police say the 75-year-old man and 72-year-old woman were attacked by a knife-wielding man in their home at Torrington, a small village in northern NSW, just after midnight on Thursday. The woman “collapsed with a chest wound” while her husband was slashed across his abdomen, police say. The elderly man called triple-0 as their attacker, believed to be a 34-year-old man, retreated onto the home’s veranda. The stabber tried to get back into the house before police arrived and was shot by the older man,
police say. The couple were treated at the scene for serious injuries before being flown to Gold Coast Hospital in a critical condition. The younger man suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to Armidale Hospital under police guard. Police say the man is not known to the couple. A crime scene has been established and investigations are ongoing.

Why was the attacker even able to get in like that. Seems like police should’ve been there faster or something. But also he called triple-0 so that part makes sense.
So he stabbed them, went outside, then came back and got shot… I mean I get defending your house, but I can’t stop thinking like why didn’t the older guy just wait for cops instead of shooting on the veranda. Also “Gold Coast Hospital” is weird to me, like that far from NSW? Idk.
This is why I don’t trust anyone who thinks old folks can’t handle themselves. But then again, the article says he was “slashed across his abdomen” so the timing feels crazy. The attacker was 34, not known to them, so it was just random violence?? Also they said critical condition, but treated at the scene and flown… like what if he was already dying and then suddenly they’re just shipping him somewhere. Just awful.
