3 people have now died in NH murder-suicide

Local News

Mental illness likely contributed to the actions of the 29-year-old man who allegedly shot his mother, father, and brother before turning the gun on himself, officials say.

A New Hampshire man has died from gunshot wounds, inflicted by his brother, who committed suicide after also shooting their mother and father earlier this month, Attorney General John Formella’s office announced Monday.

Michael Marro, 41, had been hospitalized in critical condition since the Aug. 11 shooting that left him with a “catastrophic gunshot wound to the head.” The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the gunshot wound ultimately led to his death and ruled the manner a homicide, Formella’s office said in a press release.

The shooting took place just before 1 a.m. at 3 Hilltop Manor St. in Whitefield, where officers located three family members — Amy Blake, 59, Eric Blake Jr., 29, and Marro — each suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Amy Blake, Marro’s mother, died from a gunshot wound to the head after being hospitalized in critical condition, Formella’s office announced Aug. 17. Authorities also ruled her death a homicide.

Eric Blake Jr. died at the hospital on the day of the shooting, with officials ruling his death a suicide.

The fourth family member, 53-year-old Eric Blake Sr., drove himself to the hospital with a gunshot wound shortly after the incident occurred and reported what happened. He is expected to survive, according to Formella’s office.

Authorities are investigating the case as a “potential attempted murder(s) and suicide,” in which Eric Blake Jr. turned the gun on himself after shooting Amy Blake, Marro, and Eric Blake Sr., Formella’s office said.

Mental illness was a “likely contributing factor” to Eric Blake Jr.’s actions during the shooting, the AG’s office said.

Because he did not survive, no criminal charges will be filed against Eric Blake Jr., the Formella’s office noted.
