CASTLETROY Golf Club have announced details of the 2026 Men’s Senior Scratch Cup, kindly sponsored by Trade Electric Group. The competition takes place on Sunday, June 14. First competed for in 1948, the Castletroy Senior Scratch Cup is one of the oldest and most prestigious scratch cups in the country and attracts many of Ireland’s best amateur golfers each year. Measuring almost 7,000 yards off the back tees, the course offers a stiff challenge to any player on the scratch cup or championship circuit. Among
those confirmed to tee it up this year are high-profile golfers such as John Doyle, Paul Coughlan, Paul O’Hanlon, and Quentin Carew along with current Irish Boys Internationals, John-William Burke, Luke Furlong and Isaac Oliver. The list of recent winners includes 2023 Irish Close Champion, Rob Moran, Arnold Palmer Cup Representative, David Kitt, Connacht Interprovincial, Simon Walker, and former South of Ireland and British Amateur Champion, James Sugrue. The quality of former champions is further exemplified by a unique roll of honour containing seven Walker
Cup representatives (John Burke, Jimmy Bruen, Max McCready, JB Carr, Tom Craddock, David Sheahan and James Sugrue) plus future champions in the professional ranks, Liam Higgins, Des Smyth and Denis O’Sullivan.
