SANTA CRUZ — Santa Cruz police have arrested two 17-year-old suspects in connection to Monday night’s gunfire at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
Around 9:02 p.m., the Santa Cruz Police Department received reports of shots fired in the parking lot across the street from the Boardwalk on the 100 block of Riverside Avenue. Visitors evacuated the Boardwalk, fleeing their activities and sheltering in place.
No injuries were reported and no one was struck by gunfire, according to a social media post from the Santa Cruz Police Department.
After opening an investigation and collecting evidence from the scene, the Santa Cruz Police Department’s Investigations Bureau arrested two 17-year-old juveniles in Ceres in Stanislaus County. No other details about the teens’ arrest were immediately released.
The Boardwalk reopened to the public Tuesday, according to a social media post from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. In a comment on social media, the Boardwalk said it would have additional security visible in response to the incident.
The Santa Cruz Police Department worked with several agencies including the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team, Ceres Police Department and Santa Cruz Seaside Co., which operates the Boardwalk, to locate and arrest the suspects.
“Through ongoing communication, collaboration, and a shared commitment to public safety, the Seaside Company and Santa Cruz Police work together to create a safe and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike,” the Santa Cruz Police Department said in a media release Tuesday. “Thank you to all partner agencies involved.”
