11 Years Later, ‘Divergent’ Returns as Streaming Hit

Divergent returns – A long-ago YA blockbuster connected to Theo James is back in the streaming conversation—two decades of “what if” energy for fans chasing the next big hit. Meanwhile, James is gearing up for what comes next on Netflix’s The Gentlemen, with Season 2 still on tra
When Theo James talks about being part of something that lasts, it usually starts with The Gentlemen—but the sharpest reminder of how quickly audiences can come back to the past might be happening somewhere else entirely.
Ritchie has a track record of turning big screens into big moments. but his small-screen work has been quieter in comparison. Still. Guy Ritchie has directed two episodes of Prime Video’s Young Sherlock. Prime Video’s latest adaptation that has already been renewed for Season 2. That followed 2025’s MobLand, with Ritchie again directing two episodes of Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnan’s hit crime thriller.
And before all of that, Ritchie’s best-known TV work for many viewers sits with Netflix’s The Gentlemen. The show is a follow-up to the hugely popular 2019 movie of the same name. and Ritchie directed two episodes on the series while also writing two. Fans are watching closely because the second season is set to premiere sometime in 2026. with production finishing in October last year.
Central to the show’s buzz has been Theo James, who stars as Eddie Horniman and became a fan-favorite. He shares the spotlight with Kaya Scodelario, who plays Susie Glass.
Ahead of The Gentlemen Season 2, James’ older projects are getting a new kind of attention. One of them is an unlikely streaming comeback: Divergent, released in 2014. James was 30 at the time, and the film marked his fourth feature film appearance. The movie starred Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley alongside James.
Divergent didn’t land the way studio ambitions hoped. Most critics panned it, and it earned a 41% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers also criticized the film for being formulaic and shallow.
But the audience story told later looks very different. Twelve years on, Divergent has become a streaming hit. At the time of writing, it was scoring a place among the ten most-streamed movies on Peacock in the U.S.
That shift—away from critical approval and toward mainstream endurance—is part of why fans are paying attention again. The Gentlemen’s next chapter may be the headline for James. but Divergent’s sudden return to the streaming charts is the reminder that popularity doesn’t always follow the same path twice.

Divergent coming back like 11 years later is wild, I thought nobody cared about that movie anymore lol.
Wait so Theo James is in Divergent AND The Gentlemen? I’m confused because I swear Shailene was the main one. Either way I guess I’ll rewatch if it’s on Peacock.
Peacock top ten is crazy, but like Rotten Tomatoes said it flopped so how is it a “hit” now? Streaming numbers are always inflated or people just hate-watch it. Also 2026 seems so far, I thought season 2 already came out.
This is why I don’t trust critics, they roasted Divergent and now it’s everywhere. Meanwhile Guy Ritchie doing TV episodes again… isn’t he like a movie director? I heard Young Sherlock already renewed too so maybe they’re just bringing everything back for clicks.
