Anthony Volpe got a balanced review about his first appearance at third base from Aaron Boone following the New York Yankees’ clash with the Baltimore Orioles on Friday evening.
Volpe is completing the fourth regular season of his career in the majors with the Yankees. He shines as one of their best players, helping them secure a place in the playoffs once again.
New York has one more series to deal with before gearing up for the postseason. Before that, Volpe got to experiment playing at third base for the first time in his career. Boone, the team’s manager, provided his thoughts on how Volpe performed after the game.
“Not a lot of action out there, but there’s something to be said for being in there and thinking through the situations and moving and setting up how you’re supposed to,” Boone said.
“We’ll see,” Boone said. “He’s worked a lot over there. He played a little bit down there in Triple-A so just because he didn’t get a ball in the game, I just wanted him moving around so we have some options.”

How Anthony Volpe, Yankees played against Orioles
Anthony Volpe and the Yankees got their 6-3 win over the Orioles in Game 2. It was a resounding effort after falling 10-2 in the series opener earlier on Friday.
“Obviously you get prepared and that’s part of being a new fielder,” Volpe said, via Associated Press. “No matter where you play, you got to anticipate and know what you got to do.”
The game started out close as both teams went scoreless after the first four innings. New York came alive in the next three frames, scoring all six of their runs against Baltimore en route to victory.
New York improved to a 93-68 record on the season, sitting at second place in the AL East Division standings. They are above the Boston Red Sox and the Orioles while trailing the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Yankees will look to end the regular season with a bang in their series finale against the Orioles. That matchup commences on Sept. 27 at 3:20 p.m. ET.
