The worst of the recent rail chaos is now cleared, but a few road and Tube niggles are still worth planning around.
On the roads, the A55 in North Wales only has overnight closures at Pont Dafydd and Waen/Rhuallt, so daytime travel out shouldn’t be badly affected.
The M6 has around 20 active closures, including overnight works between junctions 36-39 near Borrowbeck that will run into November.
HS2-related works are also ongoing around the M6/M42 in the West Midlands, though these are mostly weekend-focused so a midweek trip should see lighter disruption.
Driving directly to The Den isn’t advised since Millwall has no fan parking, so supporters should park near an outer London station and finish the journey by train or Tube.
On rail, the major engineering closure between Bidston, Wrexham General and Shrewsbury ended August 31, so normal services should be back for matchday, though it’s worth checking ahead given how disruptive that closure was.
Avanti West Coast has had recent weather-related cancellations and speed restrictions on the West Coast Main Line, so delays remain possible, though there’s currently no strike action affecting services.
In London, parts of the Central, Circle, District and Piccadilly lines face closures through September, and the Overground’s Windrush line has nine separate disruptions this month.
While Southeastern has overnight engineering work running September 1-4, a normal evening service to South Bermondsey, the closest station to the ground, with a dedicated away-fan walkway, is expected.
Weather looks fine for the trip, with London dry and mild around 21-23°C and only a low rain chance, while Wales should be dry and sunny early in the week.
