The 52-year-old will serve 2 1/2 years for striking and killing Timothy Gain, and then leaving the scene.
A Worcester Superior Court judge sentenced a 52-year-old Worcester woman Tuesday to 2 1/2 years in a correctional center for a 2020 hit-and-run in which she fatally struck 58-year-old Timothy Gain.
Kathryn Quinn, who was driving a dark Cadillac on July 30, 2020, crossed the double lines on Lincoln Street and struck Gain before leaving the scene, Worcester Police say. Gain was then taken to a hospital, where he eventually died.
Quinn pleaded guilty Tuesday to manslaughter, leaving the scene of personal injury and death, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, court records show. Three other charges related to the fatal collision were dismissed.
“This was a terrible tragedy, and Ms. Quinn’s emotion in court yesterday was genuine,” wrote attorney Michael H. Erlich, who represented Quinn, in an email to Boston.com. “I think it was clear to everyone present that she will carry the weight of what happened with her for the rest of her life.”
The prosecution did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
The collision occurred around 11:30 p.m. at 273 Lincoln St. near Duxbury Road in Worcester, according to police. Quinn struck Gain on the sidewalk, along with two parking meters and a “no parking” sign.
Quinn then continued to drive down Lincoln Street to Mckinley Road, police say.
Police located Quinn at her residence along Uxbridge Street, where her vehicle was found with splattered blood, hair fragments, and broken glass, according to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette. Quinn’s apartment is less than a half-mile from the site of the collision.
Evidence found in discovery included surveillance footage and an autopsy report, according to court records.
Police sought charges against Quinn for the collision July 31, 2020. A grand jury later indicted Quinn on Oct. 21, 2022, and she was released on her own recognizance under the condition she doesn’t drive, court records show. She initially pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Quinn changed course on Tuesday, pleading guilty to three separate charges. Judge Adam Sisitsky sentenced the woman to 2 1/2 years for manslaughter and leaving the scene of personal injury and death. The two charges will run concurrent to one another, and she will serve the sentence at Western Mass. Regional Women’s Correctional Center, according to court records.
Quinn will also serve two years of probation for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, court records show.
