The film will be directed by David Gordon Green, a filmmaker known for working across genres and tones.. Green last directed the indie comedy “Nutcrackers. ” but has spent recent years firmly in the horror lane. including directing three new “Halloween” movies and the 2023 release “The Exorcist: Believer.” His involvement points to an execution that could blend momentum and tension with a thriller sensibility.

The casting also marks a notable continuation of Smith’s return to acting following the widely publicized moment at last year’s Oscars. often referred to as the Oscar slap.. In 2024, he appeared in “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” which was his first major project back after the incident.. The film went on to gross more than $400 million worldwide.

For audiences. “Supermax” looks poised to deliver a familiar thrill framework—FBI agents inside a high-security facility—while using the prison’s extreme limits as the engine for escalating twists.. With Green directing and Weil and Rosen leading both the writing and executive production. the project also has the ingredients of an action-thriller built for momentum rather than patience. where every turn can tighten the stakes.
