White Sox’s Will Venable shares Colson Montgomery update after injury scare vs. Guardians
White Sox manager Will Venable provided an injury update on Colson Montgomery before Thursday’s game against the Tigers.
The Chicago White Sox are set to play the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night in the first matchup of a four-game series. Chicago is now a half-game behind the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central standings after dropping Wednesday’s contest by a final score of 6-3. The White Sox are still in a quality position to make a run at winning the division, but shortstop Colson Montgomery is dealing with an injury after getting hit by a pitch on Wednesday. Manager Will Venable provided an injury update on the infielder ahead of Thursday’s game, via James Fegan of Sun-Time Sports.
“Colson Montgomery (left wrist contusion) still has a lot of pain while swinging. Will Venable said he remains day to day,” Fegan reports.
With Montgomery out of the lineup on Thursday, Luisangel Acuna is hitting eighth and playing shortstop.
Montgomery, 24, has had an especially interesting season. While he does have 31 home runs, 84 RBI and 23 doubles, his 211 strikeouts is the worst mark in the league. Additionally, Montgomery is hitting just .203 with a .290 OBP.
In other words, Montgomery doesn’t get many hits and he strikes out a lot, but when he makes contact he makes it count. Montgomery has legitimate power from the left side of the plate and the White Sox are a better team with him on the field.
