LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Wednesday and Thursday are our hottest days of the week, with temperatures trying to climb to the mid- to upper-90s. We’ve made both days Weather Alert days because of this heat. The humidity could make heat indices feel like 100+ degrees in a few spots. Thankfully, that’s going to last only a short time. Shower chances are slightly higher on Thursday too, but we don’t expect much rain anyway.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for much of the area for Wednesday. It is in effect until 8 p.m. A heat advisory has also been issued for Thursday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Stay cool as best you can today, with lots of breaks if you’re working outside. Try to stay hydrated as you’re going to sweat a lot while outside. Check on your neighbors too, as hopefully the last of the excessive summer heat works through our area this week.
Lows are warm in the low 70s again, with just a few clouds expected to linger through the night. Isolated showers will fizzle out as the sun sets this evening.
Shower chances do increase for Thursday and Friday as showers and a few storms could be more widespread. We’re still not expecting much rain, though, as many of us may get skipped.
Cooler weather will return by the weekend thanks to a cold front pushing through. Highs will be back in the mid-80s with clouds and sunshine in the forecast through Monday.
