Virat Kohli’s 9th IPL Hundred Lifts Bengaluru Over KKR

Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 105 off 58 balls anchors Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders.

A record-making century by Virat Kohli turned Bengaluru’s run chase into a statement on the road to the IPL playoffs.

Kohli stayed unbeaten on 58 balls with a fluent 105. carrying defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the top of the Indian Premier League through a six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday.. His innings came in a run chase that needed 194 and finished at 194-4 in 19.1 overs. underlining the authority Bengaluru showed while replying to Kolkata’s total.

The timing and momentum of the knock mattered.. Kohli arrived at the match after suffering back-to-back ducks against the Mumbai Indians and the Lucknow Super Giants. a recent stretch that made his response more striking.. Against Kolkata. he looked in command from the outset. finishing with 11 fours and three sixes as he controlled the tempo of the chase.

Kolkata had set the target at 192-4. with Angkrish Raghuvanshi delivering his third half-century of the season (71) and Rinku Singh following up with an unbeaten 49.. After Bengaluru’s first game at their second home was delayed by rain. the wet outfield reduced the margin for error. but Kolkata still managed to post a total they expected to defend.

For Kohli, the night carried additional significance beyond the result.. He played his 279th IPL game, surpassing the previous appearance record held by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma.. His ninth IPL hundred then propelled Bengaluru to the No.. 1 spot on 16 points. with two league matches still to be played. giving them an advantage heading into the final phase of the season.

Kohli’s breakthrough impact in the chase was supported by Devdutt Padikkal, who contributed 39 off 27 balls.. The match also reflected how fielding moments can swing high-stakes contests: Kolkata. which has been among the leading sides in the season’s fielding performances. dropped catches from both batters in their 20s.

Those missed opportunities helped set up a match-winning rhythm. with Kohli and his partners eventually putting pressure on Kolkata at a time when the game demanded tight execution.. The report highlighted how the significance of these chances went beyond one moment. pointing to the momentum shift that followed as Bengaluru built toward its target.

Kolkata’s defensive lapses included specific near-misses during key phases.. Rovman Powell failed to hold an overhead catch of Kohli during the power play at short cover. while Vaibhav Arora missed a sitter at deep backward square leg when Padikkal was on 22.. While cricket often turns on fine margins, those missed chances mattered in a chase shaped by Kohli’s steady run-building.

In what proved costly for Kolkata. the error-strewn middle overs allowed Bengaluru to convert opportunities into a platform. and the side then benefited from a match-winning 92-run stand between Kohli’s batting partner and him.. That kind of partnership changes the geometry of a chase. making it harder for the bowling unit to regain control once the required rate falls.

Kolkata’s results this season have been a mix of momentum and setbacks, but this defeat extended a troubling pattern.. It marked a sixth loss in 11 games. leaving them on nine points and putting them in danger of missing out on the playoffs.. The report emphasized how quickly a season can tighten at the top and bottom of the table. with teams’ postseason chances increasingly tied to each remaining league match.

For Bengaluru. the win reinforced their position as a favorite in the race for the postseason. especially with extra games still in hand.. With Kohli back among the runs after earlier disappointments. the defending champions now head toward the stretch with momentum. a lead at the top. and a confidence boost that often matters as the IPL schedule intensifies.

  1. ok but he had two ducks before this so honestly i feel like people are overreacting, one good game doesnt mean hes back or whatever. my husband played softball for 10 years and even he had slumps so this isnt that crazy to me

  2. I thought Kohli retired already like last year or something, my coworker told me he stepped down from the team after some drama with the coach. so im confused why hes playing again. either way 105 points in one game is insane i dont care what sport that is. and breaking Dhonis record too that dude was literally a legend so that says alot. bengaluru must be pumped right now, they were like bottom of the table not too long ago werent they

  3. honestly the rain delay probably helped them more than kolkata and nobody is talking about that, if the field was dry KKR wins easy. Rinku Singh had 49 and they still lost so the math just aint mathing for me. also why is this even on a US news site lol nobody here watches IPL except my uncle and he barely speaks english
