The latest update to Final Cut Camera for iOS can take advantage of the iPhone 18 Pro variable aperture system, giving video professionals more control over the shot.
Final Cut Camera is a companion app for Final Cut Pro for iPad, enabling users to capture live multi-camera projects with a collection of iPhones, as well as for more conventional filming purposes. In an update rolling out on Tuesday, the app is being upgraded with new features.
The big and timely change is variable aperture support for the new Fusion Main camera in the iPhone 18 Pro. Final Cut Camera can now select one of the available apertures from f1.48 to F4, with users also able to choose shutter or aperture priority modes, when recording video.
There’s also Cinematic mode effects for other video recordings, including those recorded in ProRes and Apple Log.
The update also introduces support for video scopes,, including the RGB parade and histogram. False color and clipping indicators with threshold settings are also available for dialing in the exposure.
Professional shooters can also get a clean video signal for broadcast-quality streams using an HDMI-to-SDI converter.
There’s also the capability to set a genlock frame delay, so that you can compensate for image artifacts from a record display. More usefully, this can also help deal with latency differences with other genlocked cameras.
The update to Final Cut Camera is free, as is the app, and requires iOS 26.66 or later.
