Jacksonville, Fla. — The fallout from Urban Meyer’s time in Jacksonville is taking another turn, with a multimillion-dollar arbitration dispute now ending against the former Jaguars coach.

Meyer lost his arbitration case against the NFL team that fired him with cause in 2021. according to a person familiar with the legal outcome.. That person spoke on condition of anonymity because both sides signed non-disclosure agreements that prevent public discussion of the case.. The person said the arbitration matter was settled in 2025, which was also first reported earlier this week.

The Jaguars declined comment, and a message to Meyer was not immediately returned.

The firing came in December 2021 when Jaguars owner Shad Khan moved to dismiss Meyer with cause. hours after former Jaguars player Josh Lambo said Meyer kicked him during practice months earlier.. Lambo’s allegation landed within a wider stretch of public scrutiny around Meyer’s 11-month tenure in Jacksonville.

The way Meyer conducted day-to-day operations became a major part of how his stint was later described. with criticism centered on a mismatch between college-style messaging and NFL expectations.. He splashed slogans and catchphrases around the facility. instilled gimmicks in practice. brought in motivational speakers. and repeatedly blamed assistants for losses rather than the players on the field.. Meyer also defended a belief that coaches coach for players and players play for coaches.

One decision drew particular attention after a Thursday night game at Cincinnati in late September. Meyer chose to stay behind with family instead of flying home with his team. The next night, he was caught on video behaving inappropriately with a woman at a bar in Columbus, Ohio.

Meyer challenged the firing and pushed the dispute to arbitration. Had he won, he would have been entitled to the remainder of his five-year contract worth roughly $6 million annually.

Even with the arbitration outcome now settled, Meyer is still tied to litigation involving Lambo. Their civil suit is scheduled to go to trial in early August. Lambo voluntarily dropped the Jaguars from the lawsuit earlier this year, leaving Meyer as the central defendant.

Lambo is seeking more than $3.5 million in salary and damages for emotional distress linked to the allegations that he was kicked and verbally abused by Meyer.. The lawsuit filed in the 4th Judicial Circuit Court in Duval County says Meyer created a hostile work environment and that his performance suffered as a result.

Meyer, 61, is working as a college football analyst at Fox Sports. He was inducted into the College Hall of Fame in December.
