U.S. soldier tried to save teammate in Morocco search

U.S. soldier – A missing American soldier jumped into the water to help a fellow service member off Morocco’s coast as search operations continue.

A missing U.S. Army soldier’s attempt to save a fellow service member off Morocco’s coast is among the details emerging as search and rescue efforts continue.

Misryoum reports that one of the two American service members who went missing in Atlantic waters off Morocco’s southern coast over the weekend jumped into the water in an effort to help the other missing soldier.. Officials say the would-be rescuer was immediately hit by a wave, complicating the effort.

The incident began when a group of service members was on a hike to watch the sunset and one soldier fell into the water near ocean cliffs close to the Cap Draa Training Area. Misryoum reports.. Nearby personnel attempted a rescue by forming a human chain with their belts, but the effort did not succeed.. A second soldier then jumped in. despite the fact that the person in the water was known not to be able to swim.

In this context, the account underscores how quickly a routine moment can turn dangerous in open water, particularly when conditions change faster than help can be organized.

Misryoum says both soldiers struggled to get back to shore, and a third service member entered the water as well. Officials indicate that the third soldier was unable to save the other two but managed to return safely on their own.

Authorities have been conducting a wide-ranging search that includes aircraft, drones, divers, and vessels along Morocco’s southern coastline, with operations continuing as of Monday. The search is focused on locating the two missing U.S. soldiers.

Misryoum also notes that the service members were participating in African Lion, an annual multinational training exercise involving U.S.. forces, African partner nations, and other allies.. Officials say the incident is not believed to be related to the exercise itself. even as troops remain stationed at the training area during the broader operation.

At this stage, what matters most is getting clear accountability and ensuring every available asset is used as the weather and sea conditions evolve.

African Lion is intended to strengthen readiness across multiple domains. and the scale of the operation means hundreds or thousands of troops can be present in training zones.. For families and the public. the unfolding search highlights the risks service members can face even outside live-fire or combat scenarios.

For now, Misryoum will continue tracking updates as authorities provide more information about the circumstances and progress of the recovery effort.
