Two Texas A&M players downgraded to ‘doubtful’ in Friday availability report

(KBTX) – Freshman running backs KJ Edwards and Carsyn Baker might play a bigger role than expected in No. 9 Texas A&M’s Southeastern Conference opener against Kentucky Saturday.

Running back Jamarion Morrow, along with wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman, were downgraded to “doubtful” in Friday’s SEC availability report. Defensive end Anto Saka and wide receiver TK Norman remained listed as “probable” on the day-before report.

Both Morrow and Bethel-Roman began the week as “questionable” before Friday’s move.

According to SEC policy, a “doubtful” listing means that a player is unlikely to play or there is a 25% chance the player will see the field. “Probable” means there is a 75% chance a player will play. SEC availability reports do not specify why a player could miss the game.

This week, A&M had a player hospitalized because of a heat-related medical emergency, but that player was discharged from the hospital and is available this weekend, according to a statement from the football program.

Morrow has the second-most carries on the Aggies through their opening two games, picking up 56 yards and a touchdown on 16 attempts. He has also been a contributor in the passing game with four catches on four targets for 36 yards. According to Pro Football Focus, Morrow played 24 snaps in the Aggies’ 48-20 win over Arizona State on Saturday.

Bethel-Roman has started at wide receiver for the Aggies in both of their games this season, collecting 13 yards on a pair of catches. He has played 56 snaps, fourth-most among Aggie wideouts, and has been targeted five times, according to PFF.

All five Kentucky players who have been listed this week — tight end Lincoln Watkins, offensive lineman Jay Clark, defensive back Andre Clark Jr., defensive back Grant Grayton and defensive lineman Jamarrion Harkless — have all been classified as “out” for Saturday’s game.

Clark, Clarke and Watkins have not played a snap this season. Grayton has been on the field for 75 snaps in two games, tallying six tackles. Harkless has played 40 snaps, but has not recorded a tackle.
