Tucker Carlson makes fresh call to invoke the 25th Amendment, says President Donald Trump ‘should have been removed from office by his own Cabinet secretaries the moment he threatened a nuclear attack’
Tucker Carlson is once again calling for Donald Trump to be removed from office under the 25th Amendment.
The former Fox News host argued that Trump’s Cabinet officials should have intervened after the president first threatened nuclear attacks against Iran.
While speaking with NPR’s Steve Inskeep about the ongoing war, Carlson also talked about why he has become critical of Trump.
Tucker Carlson says Donald Trump should have been removed from office
Carlson was first asked whether Trump should be impeached over the war.
“He’s not going to be punished for it. They’ll get him on corruption or whatever,” the political commentator said.
Carlson noted that the president “should have been removed from office immediately when he threatened nuclear war.”
“Threatening the offensive use of nuclear weapons? Which is to say threatening the destruction of humanity?” he emphasized.
Donald Trump’s warning
During a recent speech at U.N. headquarters, Trump said the U.S. could “annihilate” Iran if the conflict continues.
“Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before — maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East, or even the world?” the president asked.
“Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic, and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again? Do I drive them into hell, with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness for generations?”
Past threats
It wasn’t the first time Trump threatened to wipe Iran off the map.
In April, he said the country’s civilian infrastructure could be attacked if the two sides didn’t reach an agreement.
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” Trump said at the time. “I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.”
Between the U.N. speech and Trump’s earlier threats, Carlson had enough, he said.
“It’s enough for me to say he should be removed from office,” he explained.
“He should have been removed from office by his own Cabinet secretaries the moment he threatened a nuclear attack,” he added.
The 25th Amendment
Inskeep then asked if Carlson wants the 25th Amendment to be used, and Carlson confirmed that he does.
“That’s correct. He should have been bundled up and taken out. That’s a crime. There’s no greater crime than that,” Carlson said.
The 25th Amendment gives the vice president and a majority of Cabinet secretaries a way to remove a president who is unable to carry out their duties.
“Here you have a guy threatening to eliminate the human race, and that’s not considered a crime?” Carlson asked.
“It tells you how deranged our moral scale has become. So he should be removed from office for threatening first-use nuclear strike,” he explained.
