Trump announces a new ‘Super Intelligence Force’ after signing order renaming AI

President Donald Trump announced a new “Super Intelligence Force” in a post on Truth Social Sunday, just days after signing an executive order renaming Artificial Intelligence.

Trump says the force will “ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence,” by coordinating the federal government’s efforts.

“The Super Intelligence Force will coordinate the Federal Government’s engagement with Consumers, Public Interest Groups, Religious Organizations, Critical Infrastructure Providers, and Super Intelligence Companies,” Trump said on Truth Social.

He said the force will be led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton. Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering and Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael, and Director of the Office of Personnel Management Scott Kupor will all serve as vice chairs.

Clayton spoke with The Wall Street Journal about the force, saying, “The president asked that a group be put together.”

He said the panel has been tasked with reporting on the risks and opportunities AI poses within 120 days, and emphasized the U.S. government’s desire to lead the industry, saying “the risk of not being first is high.”

According to The Journal, the force will review AI-related risks and current government reporting mechanisms, checking them for breaches, hacks and other incidents and issues.

It will also recommend ways to strengthen the federal government’s response capabilities.

The Journal says in addition to Clayton and the vice chairs, Super Intelligence Force members will include Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

Super Intelligence vs AI

The force is just the latest effort Trump has made, using the term superintelligence rather than artificial intelligence.

During a UN General Assembly meeting last month, Trump said the word artificial “makes it sound fake, and it is not fake, it’s actually amazing.”

Since then, he’s signed an executive order directing the U.S. government to officially rebrand AI as “super intelligence” in federal communications.
