Trump Adviser Says Midterms Are ‘Obviously Going To Be F***ing Rough’ for Republicans

At least one adviser to President Donald Trump isn’t buying his boss’s claim that midterm election polling is “fake.”
Trump is broadly unpopular among the electorate, and polls show Democrats consistently and comfortably ahead on the generic congressional ballot. And some Republican seats once regarded as solidly GOP are now in play. Republicans are widely expected to lose their narrow House majority and potentially even the Senate.
On Monday, CNN reported that the “mood among Donald Trump’s inner circle has soured as GOP candidates openly break with the president.”
“It’s obviously going to be f***ing rough,” a Trump adviser told CNN. The person said the best Republicans can hope for is a repeat of the 2022 midterm in reverse, where Democrats controlled both houses of Congress and only narrowly lost the House while retaining the Senate.
Last month, The Atlantic reported that Trump would direct his MAGA Inc. super PAC to make ads starring himself. The idea is to make the election a referendum on his presidency.
“He’ll be playing hard in Florida, Texas, Michigan and Ohio — he’ll be on the road just about every day in October campaigning,” one official told CNN. “We’re leaving it all on the table.”
The White House also plans to dispatch Vice President JD Vance to stump for candidates in swing states and districts, though CNN said this comes with a certain amount of risk.
“The White House and the president’s political apparatus view Vance as a crucial surrogate, and one that tends to stay far more on message compared to the president,” the report stated. “But the campaign doesn’t exactly view him as an ace card to deploy in truly competitive territories — he’s still viewed as an extension of Trump. Both men are seen as potentially doing more damage than good in certain swing districts, sources familiar with the discussions tell CNN.”
