Top Trump Diplomat Rejected Bull Statue Over Concerns About Pagan God, Child Sacrifice: Report

Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau hit the cancel button on a U.S. exhibit featuring a bucking bull because he feared it was too similar to Baal, a pagan god associated with Satanic rituals, child sacrifice, and the dead sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein, according to a Tuesday report from Axios.
Reporter Marc Caputo wrote that Landau stopped the bull — which was slated to represent the American West at an expo in Belgrade next year — last month after sharing his concerns. Those worries elicited “eye rolls and snickers” from other State Department officials, according to the report.
“I remain somewhat concerned by the Golden Bull imagery! Did a quick internet search and don’t want it to become a distraction,” Landau emailed staffers. “The golden calf from the Bible is often portrayed as a golden bull.”
His email included links and pictures on bull worship. Landau added, “critics and commentators sometimes compare modern financial fixations — typified by the famous Charging Bull statue on Wall Street to the ancient worship of material idols.”
Caputo later noted Baal was tied to conspiracy theories about Epstein having a bank account with the same name — something which spurred Candace Owens to title a February show “BAAL SO HARD: The Epstein Files.”
And leading up to Operation Epic Fury, he wrote, “Iranian officials organized rallies across the country where people burned effigies of Baal. The regime specifically linked the symbol to Epstein and an alleged cult of child sacrifice.”
Landau was appointed by President Donald Trump at the start of his second term. Caputo wrote his time at the State Department has been rocky so far, due to several “internal dustups,” including a claim Landau went “rogue” on the administration’s approach to Venezuelan leader Maria Corina Machado.
One unnamed State Department official told Axios the bull issue will be “sorted out” by the time the 2027 expo rolls around, “and it won’t be Satanic.”
