Texas GOP Candidate Condemned By Fellow Republicans for ‘Racist’ Post About Non-White Students: ‘Makes Me Sick’

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and several other Republicans denounced GOP candidate Bo French for posting a “racist” picture where he complained about a bunch of non-white students celebrating the University of Texas football team’s wild comeback victory against Ohio State.
French, a conservative who is running for Texas railroad commissioner, was apparently disgusted by what he saw on Saturday night.
“I heard UT graduation this year looked like this,” French posted on X. “I didn’t believe it. The problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined.”
His post included a pic of several students, seemingly of Indian and South Asian descent, partying at the Cotton Bowl.
French was swiftly condemned by several GOP lawmakers, including Cornyn.
“This is the Republican nominee for statewide office,” Cornyn posted. “Are other Republican elected officials going to condemn the intolerance and racism, or look the other way while it becomes normalized. This is how great political parties self-destruct. Sad.”
Others followed suit.
State Rep. Jeff Leach (R) told French, “delete this, Bo.”
He then followed it up with a picture of his son at the game, alongside students from various ethnic backgrounds.
“This is my son Brady at the @TexasFootball game with his pledge class,” Leach posted. “Bo thinks it’s a ‘problem’ they don’t all look like and have the same skin color as Brady. I think that’s racist — and it makes me sick.”
State Rep. Lacy Hull (R) also called out French.
“Please delete this. This post breaks my heart,” she posted. “I see college kids cheering on their football team. I see Texans.”
Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows (R) also responded to French on X, saying he can “oppose immigration policy without demeaning people because of their race or ethnicity — this post has crossed the line. Delete it.”
And State Rep. Jared Patterson (R) slammed French in a lengthy post where he said his “racist” and “wrong” post was not something a good Christian would do.
“There is absolutely nothing Christian or conservative about looking at a crowd of young Texans at a college football game, seeing the color of their skin, and declaring that they are a ‘problem,’” Patterson posted. “These are 20-year-old kids cheering for their university—not political props and not targets for racial attacks.”
The uproar comes a few days after the Republican Party held its first-ever midterm convention in Dallas.
President Donald Trump has been focused on making sure Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) beats state Rep. James Talarico (D) in their Senate race, with Trump recently warning voters he “will be the last Republican president and our country will live in hell!” if Texas turns Blue.
Talarico on Sunday posted he appreciated Cornyn ripping French’s post, before asking Paxton if he would “condemn this blatant racism or will you cower to extremists?”
Paxton responded by saying “I condemn racism in all its forms, including James Talarico saying white men are America’s top terror threat and that he prays to overcome his own ‘whiteness,’ whatever that means.”
He continued bashing Talarico by saying, “Only one person in this race has a history of dividing Texans by race, and it’s James Talarico. I will continue to focus on uniting our State and bringing together the broadest possible coalition to fight for Texas, our values, and our families.”
French on Sunday responded to multiple posts criticizing him by saying, “Generations of Texans have invested billions of dollars into UT. Today it is filled with foreign nationals and Leftists who boo Ted Cruz. John Cornyn says we should accept decline. The voters I talk to want to return our institutions to serving the interests of citizens.”
