A manhunt is still underway in Tennessee after a retired special forces veteran accused of shooting his wife fled into nearby woods early Friday.

Misryoum reports that the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office said it is actively searching for Craig Berry. believed to be armed. following an incident at his home in Dover.. Deputies responded around 1:30 a.m., but Berry allegedly escaped before officers arrived, leaving investigators to search the surrounding area.

This kind of case can quickly strain local resources, especially when an accused person is considered armed and able to evade immediate contact.

Berry’s wife was taken to a medical facility, though officials have not publicly detailed her condition. As of Monday, the search continued, with Berry last reportedly seen wearing camouflage near River Trace Road in northwest Tennessee, roughly 90 miles from Nashville.

Investigators have noted that Berry has extensive training in survival tactics and is an excellent swimmer and diver. describing him as in good physical shape.. They also said he is believed to have at least one handgun and extra ammunition. and that an additional warrant has been secured alleging second-degree attempted murder.

Authorities have also signaled that the search may require broader coordination because the situation is fluid and the risk factors remain high.

The sheriff’s office said it scaled back its wooded-area search over the weekend but continued actively looking. adding that it does not know whether Berry is still in the area.. Officials urged nearby residents to review trail camera footage, saying they were not ruling out the possibility of outside help.

Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office said it is working with the U.S. Marshals Service to conduct a more detailed search stretching from River Trace Road to Highway 79 and into parts of Highway 232 this week. Officials continue to ask anyone with information to contact 911.
