Tenerife Forward Jesus De Miguel Hospitalized After Serious On-Field Collision

Tenerife striker Jesus De Miguel’s medical condition has deteriorated following a severe on-field collision during a Spanish second division fixture, according to the club. The 30-year-old forward sustained serious head and chest injuries during Monday’s home match against Andorra at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez.
The incident took place deep into stoppage time as Tenerife and Andorra were locked in a 2-2 draw. With seven minutes of added time elapsed, Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono rushed out toward the centre circle to clear a long ball. During the challenge, Owono’s knee appeared to strike De Miguel, leaving the Tenerife player lying motionless on the turf.
Medical personnel immediately rushed onto the pitch to administer emergency treatment to the stricken player before he was transferred to a hospital via ambulance. Spanish media outlets, including Marca, reported that De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest inside the ambulance and was resuscitated by paramedics en route to the medical facility.

The fixture was immediately halted following the collision. The match referee issued a straight red card to Owono for the challenge and subsequently abandoned the game as distressed players from both squads gathered on the pitch, with several of De Miguel’s teammates visibly moved to tears.
Tenerife initially released a statement on Monday reporting that the player was in a “stable” condition despite the severity of the situation. However, a subsequent update issued by the club in the early hours of Tuesday morning indicated that De Miguel’s neurological condition had worsened, with club officials stating that further updates would be provided as the situation develops.
Clubs across the division have offered their support following the incident. In an official statement, Andorra expressed solidarity with the affected player: “We want to send all our strength and best wishes to Jesus de Miguel after the serious incident suffered during today’s match. We hope he recovers soon. A very strong hug to the player, his family and Tenerife.”
