Doncic Paces Lakers Past Heat With 42 Points

Luka Doncic continued his explosive early-season tear on Monday night, delivering 42 points, 13 assists, and seven rebounds to power the Los Angeles Lakers to a 138-117 victory over the Miami Heat.
The standout performance marked Doncic’s fifth consecutive game scoring at least 37 points. Connecting on six 3-pointers, the star guard kept up his relentless offensive momentum just one night after posting 45 points and 15 assists in a win over Toronto.
Doncic set the tone early with 16 points, five assists, and four rebounds in a dominant opening period. The reigning NBA scoring champion is averaging 15.0 points in the first quarter this season, having scored at least 13 points in all but one of his seven appearances. He reached 24 points by halftime and added another nine points in the first 4 minutes and 30 seconds of the third quarter, stretching the Lakers’ advantage to 93-74.
Support came from across the roster as Los Angeles improved to 6-2. Austin Reaves contributed 27 points, stepping up while Doncic rested at the start of the fourth quarter, while Walker Kessler added 15 points and 15 rebounds. Lakers forward Ziaire Williams returned from a three-game absence due to a foot injury, though Jake LaRavia retained the starting spot previously held by Williams.
Despite playing their second game in two nights—having held off the Raptors on Sunday following a Friday matchup—the Lakers maintained a comfortable margin down the stretch as Miami failed to mount a serious comeback.
Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Heat with 30 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists as Miami opened a five-game West Coast trip. The loss dropped the team to 5-7 to begin the Greek superstar’s debut season with the franchise. Klay Thompson chipped in 19 points and Bam Adebayo had 16 for the Heat, who had been idle since Friday.
During the contest, Heat president Pat Riley received a warm ovation from the arena crowd when projected onto the scoreboard. The venue previously unveiled a statue honoring Riley’s tenure as coach of the Showtime-era Lakers last season.
Looking ahead, the Heat continue their road trip against the Clippers on Wednesday night, while the Lakers travel to face Sacramento on the same evening.
