Tanzania–Zimbabwe Union Celebrated at 62 Years of Unity

Misryoum reports Tanzania’s embassy in Zimbabwe marked 62 years of Union with a message linking unity and peace to development.

A celebration of 62 years of Union put unity, peace, and shared progress at the center of a diplomatic gathering in Harare.

The event was hosted by the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Zimbabwe at the Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles, where Tanzania’s Ambassador in Zimbabwe, Police Commissioner Suzan Kaganda, welcomed Fredrick Shava, Zimbabwe’s Minister for Education, Science and Technology.. Shava attended as the representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Prof.. Amon Murwira.

Speaking during the anniversary under the theme “Miaka 62 Muungano amani umoja na Mshikamano ni Msingi wa Maendeleo endelevu,” Ambassador Kaganda said Misryoum sends a clear signal through such occasions: sustained cooperation remains essential for long-term development.. She also thanked the Government of Zimbabwe, the diplomatic community, and other stakeholders for the support extended to Tanzania.

She pointed to ongoing efforts to promote clean energy, noting that Tanzania continues to encourage the use of safer energy options under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan. The Ambassador said those initiatives have delivered positive results.

Meanwhile, Shava praised Tanzania for maintaining unity and peace over the 62 years of the Union. He described Tanzania as a strong example not only within the SADC region but also across Africa.

In this context, the message from Harare is less about a past milestone and more about what both sides aim to carry forward. When leaders connect diplomacy to practical priorities, it can shape how cooperation stays relevant.

Shava added that Zimbabwe will continue to value Tanzania’s role in the liberation efforts, and he emphasized the need to sustain development collaboration between the two countries.

Misryoum notes that anniversaries like this often function as more than ceremonial milestones. They help reinforce political goodwill while creating space for renewed commitments across education, technology, and broader public priorities.
