Sudarshan Yellamaraju makes PGA Championship field

Sudarshan Yellamaraju secured the final spot in the PGA Championship field after Kristoffer Reitan’s win at Myrtle Beach reshuffled entries.
A Canadian rookie has earned his first major tee time, with Sudarshan Yellamaraju taking the final place in the upcoming PGA Championship field.
The tournament announced on Sunday that Yellamaraju will be in the 156-player group at Aronimink Golf Club. Joining him are fellow Canadians Taylor Pendrith, Corey Conners and Nick Taylor, giving the Canadian contingent a notable presence for the week just outside Philadelphia.
Yellamaraju’s berth came from the alternate list, where he was initially positioned as the first alternate. He was set to step in for the major debut if a player withdrew or if a winner from the Truist Championship or the Myrtle Beach Classic was already present in the original field.
The shift became possible after Kristoffer Reitan, who was already scheduled to compete, won at Myrtle Beach on Sunday. That victory triggered the chain of eligibility and entry adjustments, allowing Yellamaraju to move from first alternate to full-field status.
It marks a significant step for Yellamaraju, a PGA Tour rookie whose rise has been rapid enough to put him on the major map early in his career. His breakout moment came at The Players Championship, where he finished in the top five, establishing himself as more than just a newcomer.
A week later, he backed that performance with another strong showing at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, following it up with a top-six finish. That momentum carried into the Truist Championship this weekend, where he finished tied for 19th at five under.
The PGA Championship is scheduled for May 14-17 at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.. With Scottie Scheffler listed as the defending champion. the event continues to build its competitive backdrop around recent major form and the pressure that comes with following a winner at the top level.
For Canadian golf, Yellamaraju’s entry carries added weight. No Canadian man has won a major since Mike Weir won the 2003 Masters, meaning this latest opportunity extends a long wait for the next landmark victory.
Just as importantly. Yellamaraju’s route into the field shows how quickly opportunity can arrive in elite golf. especially when a tournament win rearranges the status of already-entered players.. Moving from first alternate to the final spot does not change what matters most this week: he now gets the same chance to compete under major conditions as the rest of the field at Aronimink.
Meanwhile, the presence of four Canadians at the same major suggests a broader strength in the current generation.. With Pendrith. Conners and Nick Taylor already set to tee it up alongside Yellamaraju. Canada’s golfers will be watching each other closely as the leaderboard develops. each searching for that personal breakthrough on one of the sport’s biggest stages.
