Spencer Pratt Denies Hotel Bel Air Living Claim in LA Race

Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt pushed back after reports he has been staying at the Hotel Bel Air, disputing statements he made about living in an Airstream after the Palisades Fire.
Tension has flared in Los Angeles’ mayoral race after Spencer Pratt, a candidate seeking the city’s top job, responded to reporting that he has been staying at the luxury Hotel Bel Air rather than the trailer he previously said he was living in following last year’s Palisades Fire.
The dispute emerged this week following a TMZ report published Tuesday. The outlet said Pratt has been at the Hotel Bel Air for more than a month as he campaigns for mayor.
Pratt addressed the report on Wednesday by sharing a post about it on X, asking, “Hey guys, why don’t they wanna talk about why I need a hotel in the first place?” He also directed blame at Mayor Karen Bass, saying she had “let[ my] home burn down,” along with “6,000 of my [neighbors’ homes].”
The TMZ reporting tied the controversy to statements Pratt made in a campaign video ad published April 29. focused on Los Angeles’ response to the 2025 wildfires.. In the ad. Pratt appears in front of the Getty House. identified as the official residence for the mayor. and in front of what he says is a home belonging to his mayoral opponent. City Councilmember Nithya Raman.. “They don’t have to live in the mess they’ve created. ” he says in the video before appearing outside an Airstream trailer on what the ad describes as burnt property.. “This is where I live.. They let my home burn down.”
ABC News reached out to the Bass and Raman campaigns for comment on the advertisement. Pratt has since pushed back on the hotel-living reporting.
In a statement to TMZ on Wednesday, Pratt said, “I have never told anyone I lived there.” The outlet reported that Pratt said he had stayed at the hotel due to death threats and because the property has “its own armed security [and] that has become the only option.”
The Hotel Bel-Air is a luxury property in the Bel Air neighborhood, located in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. The hotel’s official website says room rates can range from around $1,000 to more than $12,000 per night, depending on the date.
On “TMZ Live” later Wednesday. the host pressed Pratt on what the outlet described as contradictory statements. including the fact that he was then “at the Hotel Bel-Air.” Pratt responded by saying. “To be clear — that is where I live …. that is where I will live until I have a new house.. The Airstream is a temporary facility.. A hotel is a temporary facility …. Again, I don’t live at the hotel Bel Air.. I don’t live in the Airstream.. I don’t live in Santa Barbara.. I don’t have a house.. They burned it down.”
Pratt has repeatedly made the fires that ravaged Los Angeles last year a central theme of his campaign. He launched his bid in January, one year after losing his home in the Palisades Fire. The fire destroyed more than 6,000 structures and killed at least 12 civilians, according to CalFire.
Pratt is a former reality television star who rose to fame on “The Hills,” which aired from 2006 to 2010 and followed a group of young people living and working in Los Angeles. His wife, Heidi Montag, and sister, Stephanie Pratt, also appeared on the show.
ABC News reached out to Pratt’s campaign for additional comment. ABC News’ Emily Chang contributed to this report.
Los Angeles mayoral race Spencer Pratt Palisades Fire Hotel Bel Air Nithya Raman Karen Bass
so he lied lol
wait i thought he was from that reality show with heidi why is he running for mayor of LA thats actually insane to me. like who voted for this to happen
nobody voted for him yet thats the whole point hes just running and honestly i feel bad because his house did burn down so its not like he made that part up but staying at a luxury hotel while telling people you live in a trailer is kinda not a great look if your whole thing is about being just like the regular people who lost everything. my cousin lost her house in a fire a few years back and she didnt get no hotel trust me
ok so here is what i dont get and nobody is talking about this. if Karen Bass let his house burn down then why isnt she getting arrested or something because that sounds like a crime to me. like you cant just let peoples houses burn thats literally her job to stop that and if she failed at her job then there should be consequences not just a campaign ad about it. also the airstream thing i mean come on you really think a rich reality tv guy is sleeping in a trailer in the middle of a burned neighborhood that never made any sense to begin with and everyone just went along with it. the whole race seems fake honestly like LA always does this stuff where they let celebrities just do whatever and nobody questions it until TMZ finds out and then suddenly its news. i just want someone to actually fix the roads thats all i care about
