Rodgers agrees new one-year deal with Steelers

Rodgers agrees – Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers have reached an agreement on a new one-year contract after months of uncertainty following the team’s January playoff exit. The deal includes $22 million in guaranteed money, with incentives that could raise it to $25
Aaron Rodgers’s long stretch of uncertainty is finally over.
Late Saturday night. the 42-year-old quarterback and the Pittsburgh Steelers agreed on a new one-year contract. bringing an end to months of public limbo that began after Pittsburgh lost in the first round of the playoffs in January.. Rodgers. who will play another NFL season with the Steelers. is set to take part in the team’s voluntary offseason practices when they begin on Monday.
The agreement provides $22 million in guaranteed money, with the potential to rise to $25 million through incentives.. Rodgers is expected to suit up for his 22nd NFL season. and the decision also means he will reunite with Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy. after the two previously won a Super Bowl together with the Green Bay Packers in 2011.
That Packers connection matters in more than one way: McCarthy and Rodgers have won 107 games together. the ninth-most by any head coach-starting quarterback duo since 1966.. The timing of the reunion is notable too—this decision lands earlier than last year. when Rodgers did not sign with the then–Mike Tomlin Steelers until their mandatory minicamp in June.
Last season. Rodgers guided Pittsburgh to the playoffs. but the Steelers were blown away in the wild card round by the Houston Texans before Tomlin departed after 19 years.. In the months that followed, Rodgers’s refusal to confirm his future plans fed the uncertainty.. While the quarterback position stayed unsettled. the Steelers added depth in the NFL Draft by selecting Penn State’s Drew Allar in the third round.
Rodgers’s own comments in March, before free agency, offered no hard deadline.. He told friend Pat McAfee. “Free agency starts in a week. ” explaining that he had talked to Mike McCarthy and Omar [Khan]. and that “There’s been no deadline that’s been put in front of me.” He added. “There’s no contract offer or anything. ” and said he was “in no rush to do so. ” insisting. “So there’s nothing I’m having to debate between.. I’m a free agent.”
That slow-burning uncertainty didn’t just shape football planning—it also brought his private life back into the spotlight.. Rodgers’s return to the NFL will put his marriage to Brittani. who has still not been identified more than 12 months after their wedding. back under public attention.. Rodgers first revealed in June last year that he had been married for “a couple of months. ” placing the wedding around March or April 2025. but he remained tight-lipped on details.
He declined to name who he married. while saying in a December 2024 episode of the Pat McAfee Show that he was dating someone named Brittani. described as a “private person” at the time.. Rodgers has never been seen in public with his wife. and even teammates and their partners have described her as a “phantom.”
In March. Rodgers also bristled at fans trying to identify his mystery wife. calling their behavior “obsessed” and “f***ing bizarre.” On the Pat McAfee Show. he said. “The obsession is f***ing bizarre. that’s the only way to put it. ” and returned to the theme multiple times—also saying he has “legitimate stalkers” and detailing that he has been “getting stalked at my house for a year and a half. stalked at the coffee shop. at the gym at Pro Active.” He added that “The paparazzi was flying drones over my house. ” and claimed he’d learned it “has had a bounty on getting a picture of my wife.”
He emphasized that the risk wasn’t limited to him. telling viewers. “But when it comes to your personal safety. it’s not just me… it’s me and her. and it’s really f***ing bizarre.” Rodgers said that when he met Brittani in 2017. “there was something crazy special about this. ” and noted that she made comments including. “I would never live in Green Bay” and “I don’t want to be a players’ wife. ” before later “moved back across the pond” and he felt he’d “gotten [himself] into crazy town.”
A pattern emerges through the timeline: Rodgers left his NFL future open for months after Pittsburgh’s January playoff loss. the Steelers filled the gap by drafting Drew Allar in the third round. and even in March he said there was “no deadline. ” before Saturday night’s late agreement ends the uncertainty before the Monday start of voluntary offseason practices.
With the contract settled, Rodgers now returns to a franchise coming off an offseason shake-up that followed Tomlin’s 19-year tenure and Pittsburgh’s wild card defeat—while also moving forward under McCarthy, the coach he previously won big with in Green Bay.
