Rick Scott Warns China Will ‘Lie, Cheat and Steal’

U.S. Sen. Rick Scott said China will not change its behavior despite Trump’s efforts at the Beijing summit.

A U.S.-China summit in Beijing may be aimed at stabilizing relations, but Sen. Rick Scott is signaling he expects little to change.

Scott. a Republican from Florida. said the meeting does not impress him and that he does not believe formal talks will alter the underlying dynamic between the United States and China.. In an interview with CNBC. he acknowledged President Donald Trump’s efforts to build a working relationship with China’s leader. Xi Jinping. while stressing that he does not trust China to act in good faith.

The Naples Republican said he respects the president for continuing to “bust his butt” to pursue engagement with Xi. Yet, in Scott’s view, even the strongest U.S. gestures will not lead to sustained behavioral change from China.

Scott argued that China will continue to engage in practices he described as harmful to the United States. including spying. deception. and economic conduct he said undermines American workers.. He also cited concerns about drug safety. alleging China continues to sell products he characterized as unsafe. and he raised allegations about forced organ extraction and imprisonment.

Scott’s broader claim was that history points toward recurring failures to meet commitments.. He warned that deception would persist regardless of any agreement that may be reached through negotiations.. He pointed to what he sees as a track record of unfulfilled obligations. mentioning international trade frameworks and previous trade dealings as examples of China not living up to terms.

His skepticism extends beyond trade, with Scott also focusing on national security and technology competition.. He called Xi a “liar” and a “cheater” who. in Scott’s words. “hates our country.” He further said China continues to threaten allies and apply pressure on issues he linked to Taiwan and the Philippines.

Scott also connected China’s conduct to U.S. domestic economic challenges, arguing that China takes American jobs by stealing technology. He said these concerns are part of a pattern he believes the summit cannot reverse.

Trump’s visit to China continues through Thursday. keeping the focus on whether the administration’s outreach can produce outcomes that Scott doubts are possible.. For Scott. the central issue is trust: he described his position as not just skepticism about specific negotiations. but a judgment that China’s leaders will not meaningfully change their approach.

  1. ok but wasnt trump literally just over there shaking hands with xi like two days ago so which is it, are we friends with china or not because i cant keep up with this stuff anymore. feels like every week its something different and nobody in washington can get their story straight.

  2. this is exactly what happened in 2015 when obama went over there and signed all those agreements and china just completely ignored every single one of them and nobody did anything about it. i remember reading about it somewhere. the whole summit thing is basically just a photo op and rick scott is one of the only ones actually saying what everyone already knows. china has been doing this for decades and they will keep doing it because we keep letting them get away with it. we buy all their stuff then act surprised when they stab us in the back. it makes no sense and im tired of politicians acting like one meeting is gonna fix 30 years of them stealing everything we have.

  3. wait i thought trump already made a deal with china back in april or whenever that was with the tariffs so why is there another summit happening now. did the first deal fall apart or something because the article isnt really explaining that part and im confused about the timeline here.
