Kennedy, the sister of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., chimed in on the latest turn in the president’s effort to slap his name on the Washington, D.C., arts venue. Her brother has distanced himself from the rebrand push, saying in January he had “bigger fish to fry.”
Kerry Kennedy was livid while talking to “OutFront” host Erin Burnett.
“This is a tragedy,” Kennedy said. “The American people love the Kennedy Center. They love the arts. They understand what’s going on. They see the corruption of this. There is not a financial issue here. President Trump has said they have $250 million ready to hand over tomorrow. He’s just withholding it because he wants his name on the building.”
“This is like so many other things that Trump has touched,” she added. “It’s a bankruptcy because he adds his name to it.”
Burnett mentioned how focused Trump was on the issue, prompting a plea from Kerry Kennedy to “leave it alone.”
She noted how the war in Iran was costing billions, gas prices were “skyrocketing” and people couldn’t afford to pay both the rent and medical bills.
“We have real pain in our country,” she said. “President Trump, please focus on what’s important. Leave the Kennedy Center alone. Allow us to move forward with this great arts center that’s a monument to a slain president and leave it alone.”
