Resurfaced Audio Catches Republican Candidate Calling Himself ‘Brown on the Inside, White on the Outside’

Colorado Republican gubernatorial candidate Victor Marx described himself as “brown on the inside, white on the outside” in resurfaced audio published Monday by MeidasTouch.
The left-leaning outlet’s Aaron Parnas shared the clip on X, though it is unclear when the recording was originally made.
“My background,” Marx explained, “my father was a drug dealer and a pimp.”
“Mine, too,” another voice chimed in — seemingly a constituent in the audience.
“I tell people I’m a reverse coconut,” the Republican candidate continued. “Brown on the inside, white on the outside. I’m very comfortable around people of color.”
Marx is running against Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser (D) to succeed term-limited Gov. Jared Polis (D). He has been outspoken about his difficult upbringing in Lafayette, Louisiana, describing a childhood marked by physical, emotional, and sexual abuse before he joined the U.S. Marine Corps.
Marx has also drawn scrutiny over his claim that his abusive stepfather forced him to kill a man when he was 7 years old. During a May interview, local 9News anchor Kyle Clark asked him, “Is that the only person you’ve ever killed?”
“As a child, yes, without question, but I’ve been in other situations where possibly people or persons died as a result of me defending myself in other countries,” the Republican candidate, who runs a nonprofit ministry called All Things Possible, responded.
According to the organization’s website, it focuses on “hunting predators as well as rescuing, restoring and empowering women and children who have been held captive by traffickers and other abusers.”
When pressed again for exact numbers and on whether that information would be something he feels is important to disclose to voters, Marx said, “There’s no need. I don’t think that’s important. It’s actually kind of — it’s an odd question to me.”
