Ravens players want this fourth quarter collapse to be a “hiccup,” not a way of life

The Ravens held an 11-point lead over the Saints in the first half on Sunday and they were up by eight points heading into the fourth quarter, but two Saints touchdowns made New Orleans 24-17 winners in Baltimore when the final whistle sounded.

It was a familiar place for the Ravens to find themselves. It was the 15th time the team has lost a game in which it held a double-digit lead since the start of the 2019 season, but the first 14 of those came with John Harbaugh as their head coach. This was the first with Jesse Minter and cornerback Marlon Humphrey said after the game that the Ravens have to make sure this does not remain part of their DNA.

“The consensus amongst the team is like, everyone is kind of tired of doing what we just did,” Humphrey said, via the team’s website. “I think it is a lot of older guys — a lot of guys that it just feels like it is time. Hopefully we will make this a hiccup and not [let] this be a bridge that is final and cannot be repaired.”

Tight end Mark Andrews said that “there is not one similarity I can feel” to previous seasons and the onus will be on him, Humphrey and other team leaders to make sure that the team isn’t deploying the same old formula in new packaging.
