Rams’ Myles Garrett already recovering like Wolverine after knee surgery, per Sean McVay

Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Myles Garrett is off to a quick start in his recovery from knee surgery, with head coach Sean McVay providing an encouraging update on his recovery.
The 30-year-old underwent surgery on his left knee Monday after dealing with the issue throughout training camp. He used crutches Wednesday, but McVay said Thursday that Garrett had already stopped using them. The 40-year-old coach joked that Garrett is “like Wolverine,” adding that the Rams star is already “healing fast” after surgery.
The procedure went well, but McVay has not provided a specific timetable for Garrett’s return. Los Angeles placed Garrett on injured reserve Thursday, meaning he must miss at least four games before becoming eligible to return. His earliest possible return is Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals on October 18.
Garrett’s injury followed a difficult Rams debut against the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia. Los Angeles lost 27-7, while Garrett played 61.5% of the defensive snaps and finished without a tackle or sack. Garrett later called it the “worst version” of himself and acknowledged that he needed to return to the level he expected from himself.
The Rams had initially managed Garrett’s knee issue in hopes that he could contribute before surgery became necessary. He ultimately underwent the procedure after the problem persisted.
Los Angeles made a major investment in Garrett during the offseason, acquiring him from the Cleveland Browns in June. The Rams sent Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round pick for the five-time first-team All-Pro.
Garrett entered Los Angeles after recording an NFL-record 23 sacks in 2025 and winning his second AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. He has 125.5 career sacks.
While Garrett is sidelined, the Rams will face the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills.
