President Donald Trump accuses Supreme Court of making ‘faulty, political and ridiculous decisions’ that cost the US ‘trillions of dollars’
President Donald Trump lashed out against the Supreme Court again, taking to his Truth Social platform to voice his grievances against the Court’s decisions regarding tariffs and birthright citizenship. The president accused the Court of making “faulty, political and ridiculous decisions” on the issues, claiming that they cost the U.S. “trillions of dollars.”

Trump’s remarks focused on two major legal defeats he suffered regarding his second-term agenda: the Court’s February ruling against his sweeping imposition of tariffs and its June decision rejecting his attempt to restrict birthright citizenship. In his Truth Social post, Trump wrote that the Supreme Court “lacked the Courage to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN” and blamed its decisions for financial losses and changes to citizenship rules. “Over the last 6 months, with their faulty, political, and ridiculous decisions on TARIFFS and Birthright Citizenship, they have cost the United States of America Trillions of Dollars, and forever damaged the way people become Citizens of our great Country,” Trump wrote. “It has been a sad chapter in the life and times of America, but we will prevail!” he added.
Supreme Court’s ruling on tariffs
In February, the Supreme Court ruled that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act does not authorize Trump to impose sweeping tariffs, forcing the administration to unwind the duties and begin processing refunds. Customs officials said approximately $100 billion in refunds, including interest, had been paid out by the end of July. According to reports, the figure represents a substantial portion of the roughly $166 billion businesses had paid under tariffs. The Trump administration subsequently used Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 for a separate tariff program covering 60 U.S. trading partners, with rates varying from 10 to 12.5%. Those tariffs, which were imposed in July, are currently facing legal challenges.
Supreme Court rejects Donald Trump’s efforts to limit birthright citizenship
In June, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 against Trump’s efforts to deny birthright citizenship to children born in the U.S. to parents who are unlawfully or temporarily present. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in his ruling that the 14th Amendment extends citizenship to “every free-born person in this land” and concluded, “We keep that promise today.”
Trump administration continues to pursue birthright citizenship restrictions
Trump’s administration has continued pursuing restrictions despite the SCOTUS ruling. On September 2, U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman, a Joe Biden appointee, blocked enforcement of a new Trump executive order seeking to restrict citizenship for certain children born in the U.S., including cases involving alleged birth tourism. Boardman said the Supreme Court had already settled the citizenship question for the class of children before her court. “The Supreme Court has spoken: Children in the certified class are ‘citizens at birth.’ … The president must follow it,” she wrote.
