Misryoum reports that three people ended up in the Potomac after the kayaks separated from their boats on Sunday. According to the account from local officials relayed by Misryoum, the group managed to get to safety on the Virginia shoreline.
One of the three people suffered life-threatening injuries and was unconscious at the time, Misryoum reports. The injured person was transported by boat to receive medical care.

First responders from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded to the scene around 2 p.m., Misryoum reports. Rescue teams coordinated emergency attention after the separations sent the kayaks into the river.
