Pints, pitches, and plates: A summer soundtrack

Summer is finally here, and it’s shaping up to be a fantastic season to enjoy a pint on a patio. But this year, the sun isn’t the only thing getting people outside. The World Cup is in full swing, and for many of us, there’s no better place to catch the beautiful game than at our local breweries. Watching a match at home might seem a little more comfortable, but there’s something about watching the most played sport on Earth, reacting alongside all the other
fans. Whistle Buoy Brewing in Market Square is hosting watch parties with a big screen right in the courtyard, giving you a great opportunity to enjoy the tournament while being immersed in the atmosphere. The roar of the crowd fills the courtyard, the beer is fresh, and the community is hard to beat. Perhaps you’re looking for a slightly different vibe? Driftwood Brewery’s space offers a sheltered indoor experience where you can enjoy a classic Fat Tug IPA, an Arcus Pilsner, or one of their
small-batch limited releases while cheering on your team. Win or lose, you’ll have a good time when the beer is this tasty, and the company is this enjoyable. Don’t let soccer fever be the only thing on your calendar this summer. As we head into August, it’s time to switch from the pitch to the plate. If you know beer, you know that The Drake Eatery is an institution for a reason, and their upcoming ‘Thirsty Chef’ event on Aug. 1 from 12 p.m. to
4 p.m. is one not to miss. Celebrating the venue’s anniversary, this event is always a wonderful afternoon. It’s not just beer or food. It’s about the experience of pairing creative dishes with some of the best craft beers the region has to offer. It’s the kind of event that reminds us all why we love this industry in the first place: bringing people together, serving great food, and celebrating local craft. Tickets are available online and on-site, so don’t miss out on one of
the best craft beer events of the year. Whether you’re out cheering for your team or looking for your next favourite food pairing, make sure to enjoy our summer before it’s gone. So, get out there. Grab a seat, order a round, and support the spaces that make our city so unique. Because while the games and the events are there for now, the memories stick around a lot longer.
World Cup watch parties, Whistle Buoy Brewing, Market Square, Driftwood Brewery, Fat Tug IPA, Arcus Pilsner, Thirsty Chef, The Drake Eatery, Aug. 1 event, craft beer
So basically just drinking outside, got it. Love the “summer soundtrack” thing though.
Wait is this for the Women’s World Cup or the men’s? Also why do breweries always get the best marketing, meanwhile I’m still looking for parking…
Thirsty Chef Aug 1 from noon to 4 sounds great but I don’t get the point of pairing “creative dishes” with beer like can’t you just eat and drink lol. Also “institution for a reason” is doing a lot… is it pricey?
Driftwood Brewery being sheltered indoor is kinda hilarious because isn’t summer the whole vibe? And World Cup watch parties in a courtyard… sure, until it rains and everyone pretends they’re not mad. I heard Whistle Buoy’s screen is only for certain matches?? Not sure if that’s true but yeah I’m skeptical.
