Peptide Industry Group Prepares for White House Meeting on Pending Regulatory Plan

A pending federal regulation currently under review at the White House could significantly expand access to peptides, which are largely unregulated substances that have gained popularity among wellness influencers as well as Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The developing policy has drawn close attention from industry professionals, compounding pharmacies, and federal regulators alike.

The American Academy of Peptide Medicine is scheduled to meet with the Office of Management and Budget on Wednesday to discuss the pending regulation. While the upcoming discussions have drawn widespread interest within the sector, the exact scope and provisions of the prospective policy remain unclear.

Scott Brunner, chief executive officer of the Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding, noted that the notice could carry substantial weight for the industry. However, he cautioned that the full implications remain uncertain because the specific details of the policy have not yet been made public.

“The notice could be potentially significant, but we don’t yet know what the policy says, which peptides it covers, or what conditions FDA may attach to their compounding,” Brunner said.

The regulatory review follows a contentious advisory panel meeting held in July. At that time, a panel of outside advisers to the Food and Drug Administration—which included several individuals with professional connections to the peptide industry—narrowly recommended adding multiple peptides to the agency’s official list of products eligible for compounding. That recommendation moved forward despite notable concerns and objections raised by FDA scientists regarding safety, oversight, and regulation.
