Patriots to Open 2026 Season With Seahawks Rematch

Patriots 2026 – The New England Patriots are reportedly set to open the 2026 season at Seattle in a Super Bowl LX rematch that follows a tough loss.

A rematch that already looms large for New England is reportedly set to kick off the 2026 NFL season, with the Patriots drawing the Seattle Seahawks in what’s expected to be a Super Bowl LX replay.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. the New England Patriots will begin the 2026 season on the road against Seattle on Wednesday. Sept.. 9.. The game is scheduled for Seattle’s Lumen Field and is expected to be broadcast on NBC.. For Patriots fans, the matchup brings immediate familiarity because it follows the league’s most recent championship cycle.

That Sept.. 9 rematch would also stand out historically: it would mark the first time in 10 years that the NFL opens a new season with a rematch of the previous year’s Super Bowl.. The timing effectively turns the calendar into a spotlight. since teams typically start fresh with a different set of early-season opponents rather than immediately revisiting the sport’s most recent title matchup.

The pressure for New England is heightened by what happened the first time the two teams met in the championship game.. The Patriots’ improbable run to Super Bowl LX ended with a 29-13 defeat to the Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium.. That result left a clear impression of how challenging Seattle can be, even when the Patriots are playing with momentum.

Drake Maye, New England’s second-year quarterback, faced significant difficulties in that Super Bowl loss.. He was intercepted twice and also fumbled, while completing 27 of 43 passes as the offense struggled against a stacked Seahawks defense.. In a game where execution matters at every snap. Seattle’s pressure and disruption appeared to take away key rhythms from New England’s passing attack.

Seattle’s performance in the Super Bowl reflected a defense that was not only effective but disruptive.. The Seahawks recorded six sacks, registered 11 quarterback hits, and produced eight tackles for loss in their win.. With those elements—pressure. impact plays. and negative-yardage stops—Seattle’s defensive profile is one the Patriots would have to account for from kickoff. especially in an early-season setting.

The reported Sept.. 9 matchup arrives in September with the expectation that Seattle will still be “loaded. ” making the opening test particularly demanding for New England.. Beyond the opponent itself, the environment at Lumen Field is also expected to matter.. Sources indicate Seattle’s home crowd is already known for its intensity. and it’s anticipated to be louder still on a night where the Seahawks hang their second Super Bowl banner.

The Patriots’ opponent is only one piece of the broader 2026 NFL landscape.. The full league schedule will be released on Thursday evening, but several games have already been announced for multiple teams.. That means fans will have an initial window into how the season could shape up even before the entire slate is finalized.

Among the early announcements, the NFL revealed its international games schedule.. The Patriots are set to play the Detroit Lions in Munich, Germany on Nov.. 15, with kickoff scheduled for 9:30 a.m.. EST.. New England is officially listed as the road team at Allianz Arena. a detail that could matter for logistics and game-week preparations.

For New England, a season that starts with a high-stakes rematch and then includes an overseas matchup adds an unusual combination of football demands: an immediate psychological follow-up to Super Bowl LX, followed by the disruption and adjustment that often comes with international travel.

While the league’s schedule release is still pending in full. these reported and announced matchups already suggest a 2026 season designed for visibility—NBC’s coverage of the Patriots-Seahawks opener and the NFL’s international branding through the Munich date both point to matchups built to draw attention from across the country.

  1. Wait they lost the Super Bowl already?? I thought they were still building the roster this is so disappointing honestly. Like they couldnt even keep it close 29-13 is a blowout that aint even a game at that point.

  2. I dont understand why they keep scheduling these games on Wednesdays, nobody watches football on a Wednesday thats literally the worst night of the week. My whole family watches Thursday games but Wednesday we got other stuff going on and I feel like the NFL just does this to mess with fans on purpose. Also Lumen Field is so loud its basically cheating for Seattle every single time they play home games there, they should have made this game neutral site or something. Anyway I still think Maye is gonna figure it out he just needs a real offensive line around him.

  3. Honestly this whole rematch thing feels like the NFL is just trying to boost ratings because they know people are still mad about how the Super Bowl went. And I read somewhere that Belichick was supposed to come back but then that fell through so now theyre just stuck with whoever is coaching them now and that might be the real problem here not Drake Maye. Like you can have a good young quarterback but if the coaching staff doesnt know how to protect him or call the right plays then what does it even matter. Seattle has had that same defensive system for years and New England walked right into it like they never watched any film. I just feel bad for the fans honestly they deserve better than this.
