Oreo’s New Limited-Edition Candy Tastes Even Better Than the Classic Cookies

I have tried more than my fair share of new Oreo flavors this year. I wrote about Oreo’s summertime Firecracker Pop cookies dropping, I reported on the limited-edition BTS collab re-release, and crafted a story about the three unique flavors (chicken and waffles, banana pudding, and deep-fried) competing for a returning spot on shelves. But something I haven’t tried yet this year from Oreo is a brand-new type of treat. The classic cookies and cream flavor is now a new candy in the shape of a ghost. And it’s just in time to get Oreos into your trick-or-treating bag. Here’s my review.
Oreo Launches Limited-Edition Ghost Candy for Halloween
The new Oreo ghosts have been (delightfully) haunting my social media explore pages and the Halloween candy aisles for a few weeks now. If you haven’t seen them yet, they are a small ghost-shaped candy with a dark chocolate shell. Inside, they are filled with crumbly Oreo cookie pieces and a rich creme-flavored filling. You can pick up a bag at major retailers nationwide, like Walmart, CVS, and Walgreens.
This new drop was created by Frankford Candy, which has partnered with countless other brands over the years. According to the confectionery company, this launch was inspired by the excitement over other shape-driven treats in recent years. I’m thinking of the popular pumpkin- and egg-shaped treats I’m a fan of during certain holidays, so this take is right on the money.
My Honest Review of the New Oreo Ghosts
I was expecting these new Oreo Ghosts to somewhat resemble an Oreo, but they really didn’t. The biggest surprise to me was how little crunch they had, which is normally my favorite part of a classic Oreo. I understand they have the same chocolate and creme flavors as an Oreo, but they are largely different when it comes to texture. I feel like this is something people need to understand before trying, so they aren’t disappointed that there’s no crunch.
My favorite part, surprisingly, was the dark chocolate coating. I am someone who will always opt for milk over dark chocolate, but here the more bitter chocolate balances out the sweetness of the filling. Assistant Culinary Producer Topher Leo tried one after tossing a few in the freezer to firm up and said they were amazing — almost like cookies and cream ice cream.
I set a few of the 7-ounce bags (which apparently contain about 21 candies in each) of the Oreo Ghost candies out for my coworkers to try, and people couldn’t help but call out how the taste reminded them of their favorite childhood candies. Reid said the smooth creme filling reminded him of a cookies and cream Reese’s cup. Brian mentioned how similar it was to a dark chocolate creme egg. And Lizzie raved about how they mimicked her favorite Kinder Schokolade bar. These ghost-shaped chocolate candies might just become the treat of the season that everyone trades their Laffy Taffy and Milk Duds for.
